Surface properties of coated MDF pre-treated with atmospheric plasma and the influence of artificial weathering

A non-thermal plasma treatment generated in air at atmospheric pressure was used for surface modification of medium density fiberboard (MDF) substrate. Untreated and plasma-treated substrates were coated with a waterborne acrylic coating exposed to accelerated artificial weathering (AAW) interior mode. Plasma increased the free energy MDF by about 50%, which positively influenced on wettability coating. Weathering caused decrease gloss color changes, less pronounced samples.
